Alpine is the hub of the Big Bend, half an hour to Ft. Davis or Marfa and an hour and a half to the Big Bend National or State Park along the most majestic drives in all of Texas. McDonald Observatory located atop Mount Locke and Mount Fowlkes in the Davis Mountains offers some of the darkest night skies in the continental United States for star gazing.
Or, take the “Scenic Loop” through the Davis Mountains and witness God’s handiwork in the beautiful scenery, wildlife and mountain passes. Be sure to stop in at the “Maddog’s Cantina” on the edge of town for the most incredible homemade meals in the area. Live music is frequently on the menu as well. Marfa is located approximately 26 miles west of Alpine and offers a wide array of art and adventure: Chianti Foundation is a contemporary art museum which seeks to fuse the art into the natural landscape that contains it.
